Palworld's latest update, version 0.5.0, is a game-changer with the introduction of crossplay across all platforms, enabling seamless multiplayer experiences no matter where you play. This monumental update also brings a host of new features designed to enhance gameplay and player interaction.
One of the standout additions is the Global Palbox, which allows players to store and transfer Pal data between different worlds, making it easier to manage your creatures across various game sessions. Complementing this, the new Dimensional Pal Storage system offers a staggering 10 times the capacity of the regular Palbox. This can be used not only by guild members but also as a private storage option, giving you more flexibility and space for your Pals and items.
Aesthetic enthusiasts will appreciate the new Cosmetic Armour System, accessible through the Antique Dresser. This system allows you to change your character's appearance without impacting armor stats, letting you customize your look to your heart's content. Additionally, the introduction of Photo Mode, accessible from the Pal Command Wheel, lets you capture stunning in-game moments by hiding the UI and freely moving the camera.
For those who love to tinker and build, the Drafting Table is a new feature that lets you combine low-rarity blueprints to create higher-rarity ones, enhancing your crafting capabilities. Dedicated servers for Mac users are also now available, ensuring a smooth experience for all players regardless of their platform.
Developer Pocketpair has announced plans to add dedicated servers for the PlayStation 5 version in the future, further expanding Palworld's reach. Since its early access launch in January 2024, Palworld has amassed an incredible 32 million players, a testament to its massive popularity. The studio has outlined an extensive content roadmap for 2025, promising more exciting features like an "ending scenario" and additional content to keep the adventure going.
Palworld's launch on Steam for $30 and its simultaneous debut on Game Pass for Xbox and PC broke records for sales and concurrent player numbers. The overwhelming success led Pocketpair to form a new business, Palworld Entertainment, in collaboration with Sony, aimed at expanding the Palworld IP and bringing the game to PS5.
However, the game's success has not been without challenges. Palworld faces a lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who allege that the game infringes on "multiple" patent rights. Pocketpair has responded by identifying the patents in question and adjusting how players summon Pals in the game. The studio remains steadfast, vowing to defend its position in court.
