The highly anticipated remake of Persona 4 seems to be gaining traction, as evidenced by a recent statement from Yuri Lowenthal, the renowned voice actor behind Yosuke Hanamura. In a post on social media platform BlueSky, Lowenthal confirmed that he will not reprise his role as Yosuke for the rumored remake.
"And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake," Lowenthal wrote. "I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back." While the identity of "they" remains unspecified, it is widely assumed to be Atlus, the developers behind the series. Despite this revelation, Atlus has yet to officially confirm the project’s existence.
This news comes amid ongoing discussions between video game actors represented by SAG-AFTRA and the industry regarding issues such as AI protections. As a SAG-AFTRA member, Lowenthal’s exclusion could potentially be linked to these negotiations. However, the exact reasons remain unclear.
Rumors surrounding a Persona 4 remake have persisted for some time, fueled by events such as a domain discovery earlier this year and previous leaks suggesting its development. The success of Persona 3 Reload further strengthens the likelihood of a follow-up, given its positive reception.
While an official announcement is still pending, fans are keeping their eyes peeled for updates, especially as major gaming events approach. For reference, Persona 3 Reload was unveiled during Xbox’s Game Showcase in 2023.
In related news, Persona 5: The Phantom X, a mobile and PC spin-off, is set to launch on June 26, 2025, offering players additional content tied to the beloved Persona 5 universe.
