This latest reveal follows the excitement of Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1 in March and Godzilla vs. Hulk #1 in April. Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 is a nostalgic journey set post-1984's Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars, where Peter Parker returns from Battleworld and faces the challenges of his new alien symbiote costume. As Godzilla threatens the city, Spider-Man must harness all his enhanced abilities to protect his home.
Penned by Joe Kelly, who is steering the upcoming relaunch of The Amazing Spider-Man, and illustrated by Nick Bradshaw, known for his work on Wolverine and the X-Men, this issue promises a thrilling blend of nostalgia and action. The cover art is a collaborative effort by Bradshaw, Lee Garbett, and Greg Land.
Joe Kelly shares his enthusiasm with IGN, stating, “The second I heard that there was going to be a Godzilla x Spidey crossover set in the ‘80s, I almost leapt across the table to claim it. This book is a chance to go nuts and have a blast with two iconic characters and channel the chaos of the time period that I was actively collecting Spider-Man. Nick Bradshaw really captures the absurdity of the concept and the vibe I was going for, while at the same time giving Godzilla and Spidey (in his perfectly-normal-nothing-weird-here-black suit!) the prestige and gravity they deserve. It's a love letter served with an earth-shattering roar!”
This isn't the first time Godzilla has clashed with Western superheroes; DC's Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong has already set a precedent, with a sequel on the horizon. However, Marvel's series focuses on the classic Toho Godzilla, differentiating it from DC's use of the MonsterVerse versions.
The announcement coincides with IDW's Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1, an anthology special where proceeds will support wildfire relief efforts.
*Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1* is slated for release on April 30, 2025.Stay tuned for more exciting developments in the comic book realm, including Marvel's and DC's 2025 lineups.
