Disney's highly anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will feature returning fan-favorite characters, as confirmed by franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The sixth installment marks a potential revival for the beloved swashbuckling series following years of uncertainty.
Since 2017's Dead Men Tell No Tales, Disney has entertained various concepts for continuing the Pirates saga. The fifth film's mixed reception and subsequent controversies surrounding Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow left the franchise's future in question.
Now emerging from development limbo, Pirates 6 aims to balance nostalgic returns with fresh storytelling elements - though exactly which original cast members will reprise their roles remains undisclosed.
Original Cast Members Open to Return
Orlando Bloom recently expressed willingness to return as Will Turner during an appearance on Britain's This Morning. Bloom's character famously sailed into the sunset with Keira Knightley's Elizabeth Swann in 2007's At World's End, before both made surprise cameos in Dead Men Tell No Tales' post-credits scene.
"There's definitely availability," Bloom told interviewers. "Personally, I think it'd be great to get the band back together... but we'll see where it lands." His comments fuel speculation about potential reunions among the original cast.
The production history reveals numerous considered directions for new Pirates films - from full reboots to spin-offs and continuations featuring legacy characters. Central to these discussions has been Johnny Depp's involvement.
Depp previously stated he wouldn't return as Captain Jack Sparrow after Disney severed ties during his highly publicized legal battles. The actor faced legal setbacks in 2018 regarding domestic abuse allegations, though later won a defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard in 2022.
Interest in Depp's potential return grew following last year's Fortnite crossover featuring classic Pirates characters. More recently, Bruckheimer has publicly supported welcoming Depp back into the fold.
A Fresh Approach With Familiar Faces
In his Screen Rant interview, Bruckheimer confirmed the new film will incorporate returning actors while presenting "a new take" on the franchise. When pressed about casting, he teased: "Well, not all new actors. We'll have some back... I'm not going to tell you which ones."
Whether Depp will be among these returning stars remains unknown. Disney has yet to officially announce Pirates of the Caribbean 6 or confirm any release timeline, keeping fans eagerly awaiting further details.
