Pokémon Sleep Development Transitioned to Pokémon Works
Select Button, the original developer of Pokémon Sleep, is transferring development responsibilities to Pokémon Works, a newly established Pokémon Company subsidiary. This shift marks a significant change in the game's ongoing development and future updates.
From Select Button to Pokémon Works: A New Chapter for Pokémon Sleep
Launched in March 2023, Pokémon Works has been shrouded in mystery until now. The recent announcement confirms its role in taking over Pokémon Sleep's development and maintenance from Select Button. An in-app notification in the Japanese version of Pokémon Sleep revealed the transition, though the global version hasn't yet reflected this change.
The announcement stated that development and operation were previously shared between Select Button and The Pokémon Company. The impact on the global game remains to be seen.
Pokémon Works, a collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Iruka Co., Ltd., is still relatively unknown. However, Representative Director Takuya Iwasaki's statement on their website highlights their ambition to "create an experience that makes Pokémon more real... so that everyone can enjoy meeting and adventuring with Pokémon." Their previous involvement includes contributions to Pokémon HOME.
Interestingly, Pokémon Works shares a Tokyo location with ILCA, the studio behind Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. This proximity and shared history suggest a strong connection within the Pokémon development ecosystem.
While the specifics of how this transition will affect Pokémon Sleep remain unclear, the future of the game is now firmly in the hands of Pokémon Works.
