Pokémon Legends: Z-A: Fans Speculate Connections to Other Games

Author : Isaac Update:May 18,2025

This morning, we were treated to an extensive preview of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Game Freak's innovative new Pokémon game set in the familiar setting of Lumiose City from Pokémon X/Y. The trailer showcased intriguing features such as running on rooftops, revamped battling mechanics, and the return of Mega Evolution. However, many questions remain about the game's timeline in relation to other Pokémon titles and the potential return of beloved characters to Lumiose City.

The Pokémon community has been quick to dive in and analyze every detail from the trailer, seeking connections to the broader Pokémon universe. While most Pokémon games operate as standalone stories, the first Pokémon Legends game introduced time travel and featured locations and characters from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, set centuries in the past. This has sparked curiosity about whether Pokémon Legends: Z-A will involve similar temporal twists and which familiar faces might reappear.

Since the trailer's release, fans have identified numerous connections to other Pokémon games. The most striking is the inclusion of AZ, a character known for his immortality, dating back 3000 years before the events of Pokémon X and Y. In Z-A, AZ appears to be managing a hotel in Lumiose City and seems content, especially after reuniting with his beloved Floette.

Fans have also spotted more subtle nods. One notable find is the potential presence of the Looker Bureau, hinting at the return of the fan-favorite detective Looker or his protégé Emma. Additionally, the resemblance of the new protagonists to Ethan and Lyra from Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver has led to speculation about a time-traveling plot involving these characters.

Another theory suggests the protagonists might be related to Professor Sycamore and Grace from Pokémon X and Y, adding another layer of intrigue regarding their ancestry and the game's timeline. Given AZ's immortality and the futuristic appearance of Lumiose City in Legends Z-A, it's possible that the game takes place centuries after Pokémon X and Y, with the protagonists and other characters being descendants of familiar faces.

The key art also introduced a mysterious woman resembling a Hex Maniac, a trainer type from Pokémon X and Y. This character has sparked interest due to the ongoing mystery of the "Ghost Girl" in Pokémon X and Y, who appears in a haunting scene in Lumiose City without any clear explanation. Fans are hopeful that Legends Z-A might finally unravel this enigma.

As we await more information and the game's release in late 2025, the Pokémon community continues to dissect the trailer for new discoveries and connections.
