High Demand for Pokémon TCG's Prismatic Evolutions Leads to Production Increase
The Pokémon Company is addressing a significant shortage of its latest Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) expansion, Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions, due to unexpectedly high consumer demand. This was first reported by PokeBeach on January 4th, 2025, and subsequently confirmed by IGN on January 16th, 2025.

A Pokémon Company spokesperson acknowledged the issue, stating that they are working at maximum capacity to increase production and meet the overwhelming demand. While fans may experience delays in acquiring the set, the company assures them that more cards are being printed to resolve the shortage.

The impact on smaller US retailers has been particularly acute. Limited distribution allocations, with major retailers like GameStop and Target receiving a larger share, left smaller stores struggling to meet customer demand. This situation, according to Deguire of Player 1 Services in Maryland, is partly due to stores not typically carrying Pokémon TCG products placing orders for Prismatic Evolutions. This resulted in distributors limiting supplies by 10% to 15% for local retailers.

The scarcity has already led to inflated prices on the secondary market. The Elite Trainer Box, for example, is selling for around $127, significantly higher than its $55 retail price. However, it's anticipated that increased supply will eventually stabilize prices.

Initially announced on November 1st, 2024, with a release date of January 17th, 2025, Prismatic Evolutions features Tera Pokémon ex, new special illustration rare cards, and reprints of popular cards with new artwork. Additional product releases, including a Surprise Box, Mini Tin, Booster Bundle, and Pouch Special Collection, are scheduled for February, March, and April 2025.

Players eager to experience the new set can access it early via Pokémon TCG Live on January 16th, 2025, across various platforms.
