After roughly a decade in development, Lost Soul Aside is finally launching on May 30th for PlayStation 5 and PC. Initially the solo passion project of Yang Bing, it's evolved into a major Sony-published title under their "China Hero Project." Bing is now the founder and CEO of Shanghai-based Ultizero Games.
IGN recently spoke with Yang Bing about this long journey, from a solo developer's vision to a show-stopping reveal at Sony's State of Play. Years of development have fueled the hype, with many comparing Lost Soul Aside to a thrilling blend of Final Fantasy characters and Devil May Cry combat – a comparison that emerged even after Bing's initial viral 2016 reveal video.
With the assistance of a translator, IGN explored the game's origins, inspirations, and the numerous challenges the team overcame during its extensive development.
