How to Start “Thrown to the Dogs” in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Once you gain control of Naoe and reach the open world for the first time, the Thrown to the Dogs quest will become available. Navigate to the quest marker on your map to begin.
You’ll encounter a loyal canine companion who leads you to a nearby farm. Your objective is to locate a hidden key beneath one of the structures. Once found, return to the original grave site where the dog was waiting. Upon completion, you’ll officially befriend the dog, and the quest will conclude.

Tip: If you're struggling to find the key, look for a small crawlspace under the house. Naoe can go prone and crawl through it to retrieve the key. This detail isn’t immediately obvious, so keep an eye out!
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Preorder Bonuses
After completing the quest, you’ll receive the following pre-order rewards:
- Tsuki-maru pet – A charming companion that resides in your Hideout
- 1,000 XP – A helpful boost early in the game
While the rewards may seem modest at first glance, the 1,000 XP offers a meaningful jumpstart by providing several Mastery Points. Although Tsuki-maru serves no functional purpose beyond aesthetics, its presence adds a touch of charm to your Hideout experience.
