A former employee of Respawn Entertainment recently disclosed on LinkedIn that the studio has abruptly halted the development of an unnamed project this week. This game, which had been in development for several years, was stopped without any public explanation regarding the reasons behind this decision.
Last year, gaming journalist Jeff Grubb reported that this project was not a mainline entry in the Titanfall series, clarifying that it was not Titanfall 3. To bring this vision to life, Respawn had assembled a dedicated "experimental team" specifically to work on this game, recruiting experts known for their skills in developing multiplayer shooters.
This isn't the first time Respawn has had to cancel a project; last year, they also shut down an arcade shooter known internally as Titanfall Legends. The Titanfall series, renowned for its thrilling mix of action and mech piloting, allows players to engage in combat either as agile pilots or as formidable Titans. Since its debut in 2014, the franchise has captivated gamers with its innovative gameplay, featuring parkour and intense team battles.
Currently, Respawn's focus has shifted to other high-profile projects. They are diligently working on the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series, as well as collaborating with Bit Reactor on a new strategy game set within the Star Wars universe.
