In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the main story quest "Necessary Evil" presents players with some of the game's most challenging moral dilemmas. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the quest and make informed decisions about whether to side with Semine or Hashek.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Necessary Evil Quest Walkthrough
After completing the "Back in the Saddle" quest, you can start "Necessary Evil." Von Bergow assigns Hans and Henry to gather intelligence from Nebakov Fortress and interrogate a prisoner. The outcome of this interrogation will determine whether von Bergow targets Semine or Nebakov Fortress. This walkthrough focuses on the path leading to Semine, where the crucial choices unfold.
Prisoner Interrogation Answers
During the interrogation, you'll need to pass Speech checks to extract information. You can either use persuasion or resort to torture. Here are the Speech options and their required levels:
- "We’ll put in a good word for you." (20 Impression)
- "Istvan and I are old acquaintances." (20 Impression)
- "Otherwise, it’ll end badly for you." (17 Intimidation)
The interrogation reveals the identity of the bandit leader and Semine's involvement. When reporting back to von Bergow, you can either implicate Semine, leading to an attack on the town, or claim no local assistance was given to the bandits, resulting in an attack on Nebakov.
Should You Attack Semine or Nebakov?
Choosing to attack Semine involves riding with the party and facing more complex decisions, particularly with Hashek. Opting for Nebakov results in von Bergow handling the bandits there, concluding the quest immediately.
While attacking Nebakov avoids bloodshed in Semine, it also means letting Semine's actions, which have caused many innocent deaths, go unpunished. Personally, I chose to attack Semine, feeling it was the morally right choice despite my familiarity with the town from earlier in the game.
If you decide to attack Semine, ensure you ride with the party to prevent the town's slaughter. Your presence can help mitigate the situation.
Should You Side With Semine or Hashek?
Before setting out, a conversation with Hashek reveals his desire for revenge and a willingness to take the most violent path against Semine.
Upon arrival, you must choose between siding with Semine or Hashek. To support Hashek, select the dialogue option "Hashek is right." To side with Semine, choose "Olda deserves a trial."
I recommend siding with Semine. Although he was wrong to aid the bandits, Hashek's approach would lead to more innocent deaths. As a morally upright Henry, it's fitting to prevent Hashek's destructive intentions.
After defeating Hashek, advise the Semines to burn their estate and flee, which will advance the quest to the next stage of reporting to von Bergow.
If you side with Hashek, the entire town will be killed. You can also find Olda in the tower and decide his fate—either sparing him or handing him over to Hashek.
Should You Tell von Bergow or Let Hans Talk?
The final part of the quest involves reporting back to von Bergow. You can either remain silent and let Hans handle the conversation or speak up about the events at Semine.
It's advisable to stay silent and let Hans talk. Hans is more diplomatic, and this approach keeps both you and Hans in von Bergow's favor, leading to plans for the next move at Nebakov.
