EA and Maxis are celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Sims franchise with a delightful surprise for fans. Today marks the re-release of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 on PC through two Legacy Collections, as well as The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
EA has launched The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, available individually and together in The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle for $40. These collections come packed with all expansions and nearly all stuff packs. Notably, The Sims 2: Legacy Collection is missing the 2008 IKEA Home Stuff pack, but otherwise, fans can enjoy comprehensive content. Additionally, The Sims 1 includes a bonus Throwback Fit Kit, while The Sims 2 offers a Grunge Revival Kit along with other add-ons.
This re-release is a significant event as it's the first time in over a decade that both games have been easily accessible. The Sims 1, previously only available on disc, has been elusive for modern gamers without access to a physical copy compatible with current Windows systems. Meanwhile, The Sims 2 was last available in 2014 through an Ultimate Collection on EA's Origin store, which was later discontinued. With the new Legacy Collections, all four The Sims games are now readily available for purchase and play through digital platforms.
Originally, IGN awarded The Sims 1 a 9.5/10 and The Sims 2 an 8.5/10. Despite the evolution of the series with new features and improvements, the original games retain their charm, simplicity, and challenging gameplay, making them a must-try for both new and returning players.
The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection are now available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and through the EA app.
