Smite 2's Open Beta Launch: A New Era for the MOBA
Get ready! Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular MOBA, launches its free-to-play open beta on January 14, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the Unreal Engine 5-powered game, which first entered alpha in 2024.
This open beta isn't just about access; it's a deluge of new content. Alongside the launch, players will welcome Aladdin, the inaugural God from the Tales of Arabia pantheon, a Magical Assassin and Jungler with unique wall-running and lamp-trapping abilities. The update also brings back beloved Gods from the original Smite, including Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni, each with refined skill sets.
Expect a significantly expanded roster. While the alpha featured 14 Gods, the open beta will boast nearly 50, with a projected total nearing 45 by the end of January 2025.
Beyond the Gods, Smite 2 introduces exciting new game modes. Joust, a 3v3 mode set in an Arthurian-themed arena with teleporters and stealth grass, offers strategic depth. Duel, a 1v1 mode, utilizes the same map. The innovative Aspects system adds another layer of strategic choice, allowing players to sacrifice a God's ability for a powerful buff. For instance, Athena loses her ally-shielding teleport but gains a foe-weakening one. Twenty Gods will initially feature Aspects, with more to come.
The open beta also delivers substantial quality-of-life improvements. These include helpful Role Guides for newcomers, PC text chat, enhanced item store navigation, informative death recaps, and more.
The competitive scene is also taking center stage. The first Smite 2 esports tournament finale will be held at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas from January 17-19.
Smite 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Prepare for battle!
