Sony's popular PlayStation console themes for PS5 are disappearing! The limited-time PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes are leaving the PlayStation Store on January 31, 2025. However, Sony has confirmed their return in the coming months, bringing good news to nostalgic PS5 owners.
In a recent tweet, Sony expressed gratitude for the overwhelmingly positive reception to the themes, stating that they are working to reintroduce these designs.
Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow. Due to the positive response on these 4 themes, we’re doing some work behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the months ahead.
The less positive news? Sony currently has no plans to release additional themes beyond these four. This announcement has disappointed many fans who hoped for a wider selection of customizable themes, a feature present in previous PlayStation consoles.
While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we're excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all.
These nostalgic themes, released in celebration of PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3, 2024, offered PS5 users a visual and auditory trip down memory lane. The PSOne theme featured the original console's imagery, the PS2 theme incorporated its menu design, the PS3 its wave background, and the PS4 its characteristic wave patterns. Each theme also included the respective console's iconic boot-up sounds.
