Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up to bring the popular video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen. The announcement was made at CES 2025 by Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions. While specifics remain under wraps, Qizilbash confirmed the project's commencement, promising fans spectacular space battles on the silver screen.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a critically acclaimed shooter drawing inspiration from Starship Troopers. Its phenomenal success is undeniable, achieving the status of PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, moving 12 million copies within its first 12 weeks. The recent Illuminate update, reintroducing enemies from the original Helldivers, further boosted its popularity.
In other exciting news from PlayStation Productions, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a collaboration between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the same studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie. Qizilbash offered a sneak peek, stating, "We're in the early stages of development for the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences this world and its characters will receive an unprecedented cinematic treatment."
