Hazelight Games' new co-op adventure, Split Fiction, is off to a spectacular start, selling 2 million copies within its first week.
The dual-protagonist story launched on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, quickly becoming another hit for the studio. Hazelight celebrated the successful release on social media, expressing it was "blown away" by the support from both new and returning fans.
According to the team's earlier sales update, an impressive 1 million players embraced Mio and Zoe's sci-fi tale just 48 hours after release. This means another million copies were sold in the following five days.
As a co-op game, Split Fiction's actual player count is likely significantly higher than sales figures suggest. Its impact is amplified by the Friend's Pass system, letting one player buy the game and share access with a friend for free. With buzz continuing to build online, that 2 million sales figure is set to rise.
Hazelight's previous title, the 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, achieved comparable early success, selling roughly 1 million copies within weeks of its March 2021 launch. Sales grew to 10 million by February 2023 and reached 20 million by October 2024.
In IGN's Split Fiction review, we praised it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another."
