Star Wars: Hunters, Zynga's initial foray into the Star Wars universe, will be closing down just over a year after its launch on iOS and Android devices. The game, which debuted in June 2024, initially captivated players with its unique blend of game show flair and innovative takes on classic Star Wars archetypes.
The official shutdown of Star Wars: Hunters is scheduled for October 1st of this year. In the lead-up to the closure, a final content update is slated for release on April 15th. In response to the shutdown announcement, Zynga has confirmed that players can now request refunds for in-game currency. Additionally, to extend the enjoyment of the game, certain seasonal events are being rerun, and the third season has been extended.
Fans eager to experience the last addition to the game, the new hunter Tuya, will have the opportunity to play with her in multiplayer. Tuya will be introduced in the final content update and will be available to all players for free from the start.

The decision to shutter Star Wars: Hunters came as a surprise to many, as there were no clear signs of underperformance. Given Zynga's robust standing in the industry, the move suggests deeper strategic reasons behind the game's discontinuation. One possible explanation could be the oversaturation of the pseudo-hero shooter genre, coupled with a shift in the Star Wars fanbase towards an older demographic less inclined towards fast-paced mobile multiplayer games.
