You'll first encounter Rompopolo in Chapter 2, during Mission 2-1: Toward Fervent Fields. Upon reaching the Oilwell Basin region, Rompopolo will cross your path as you journey towards Azuz City. Defeating it is essential to progress. Once you've vanquished Rompopolo at least once, its entry will be added to your Large Monster Field Guide. You can then engage it repeatedly either by exploring the Oilwell Basin or by selecting the "Oilwell Basin Blast" Optional Quest from your Tent.

To effectively prepare for battling Rompopolo, arm yourself with water-element weapons, ideally obtained from Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest. Additionally, equip gear with fire resistance, which you can farm from Uth Duna for items like the belt and greaves, or from Ajarakan later in the chapter. Consider crafting a fire-resistance Talisman like the Fire Charm I or a general Defense Charm I to bolster your defenses. Before the fight, don't forget to grill a meal to enhance your health and stamina.
Rompopolo Attacks and Weaknesses

Rompopolo, a unique Brute Wyvern, employs a variety of gas-based attacks due to its saggy skin that inflates with gas. Be prepared for potential poison status ailments, and carry Antidotes. Your Palico can also help cleanse these ailments.
Key attacks to watch out for include:
- Arm Swipe – Rompopolo uses its clawed arms to swipe forward twice. This attack is easy to dodge due to its limited range.
- Lunge With Arm Swipe – Rompopolo charges forward, raising its arms for an arcing swipe attack.
- Tail Swing – Rompopolo swings its tail towards its target, another physical attack to dodge.
- Poison Stream or Swipe – Rompopolo can either spray a stream of poison gas or charge while swinging its head, spreading poison.
- Oil Explosion – At a distance, Rompopolo uses its tail stinger to inject gas into oil pools, causing explosions. Quick dodging is crucial.
- Charged Oil Explosion – Later in the fight, Rompopolo pumps more gas into the oil for a larger explosion. Evade this to avoid significant damage.
