Pokemon Presents on February 27: No Switch 2 Titles Expected
Pokemon enthusiasts eagerly awaiting news on Switch 2 titles may need to temper their expectations for the upcoming Pokemon Presents scheduled for Thursday, February 27. Since its inception on the original Game Boy in the 90s, the Pokemon franchise has been a staple on Nintendo hardware. However, it appears fans will have to wait longer for any announcements regarding Pokemon games on the Switch 2.
As of now, Nintendo has not officially unveiled the Switch 2, but they have confirmed its existence and its backward compatibility with the original Switch. Additionally, Nintendo accounts will carry over to the new console, which is expected to be revealed within this fiscal year. Much of what we know about the Switch 2 stems from leaks, suggesting it will be a more powerful and larger version of the original.
While new Pokemon games are destined for the Switch 2, according to Jeff Grubb, the upcoming Pokemon Presents will focus on titles in development for the original Switch. These games will, however, be playable on the Switch 2 thanks to its backward compatibility feature.
Pokemon Presents Content Focus
The Pokemon Presents event is expected to provide updates on ongoing live-service games such as Pokemon GO and Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket. Moreover, fans are eagerly anticipating more information on Pokemon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on the original Switch sometime this year. So far, a brief teaser trailer has revealed the setting in Lumiose City, the return of some Pokemon, and the reintroduction of Mega Evolutions, but details remain scarce.
Rumors also suggest the possibility of another main series Pokemon game launching this year, distinct from Pokemon Legends: Z-A and the anticipated Generation 10 games. Speculation leans towards remakes of Pokemon Black and White or another installment in the Let's Go series, both of which are expected to be released on the original Switch, not the Switch 2.
Historically, the Pokemon franchise has favored older hardware with larger install bases, as evidenced by the release of Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 on the original DS rather than the 3DS. It appears this trend might continue, with the first major Pokemon titles exclusive to the Switch 2 likely being the Generation 10 games.
While none of this has been officially confirmed, fans can tune into the Pokemon Presents on February 27 for the latest updates and announcements from the franchise.
