The import tariffs reintroduced by former U.S. President Donald Trump are once again making waves in the gaming industry, this time affecting Razer’s high-performance Blade 16 gaming laptop. These tariffs, essentially taxes on imported goods, often result in increased costs for consumers — a burden that tech and gaming sectors are now beginning to feel.
Although the Blade 16 was briefly available for purchase on Razer’s U.S. website as of April 1, it has since been removed entirely from the online store. According to reports from The Verge, while European customers can currently order the laptop (subject to stock availability), U.S. buyers are met with nothing more than a “Notify Me” button — with no pricing details or expected restock dates provided. Attempts to access the Buy Now page lead to a 404 error, leaving many gamers puzzled and disappointed.
Razer isn’t the only company adjusting its strategy in response to these economic pressures. The renewed tariffs targeting imports from China and Taiwan — where a significant portion of PC components are manufactured — are prompting other tech firms to reconsider their U.S. market approach. For instance, Micron, a leading memory manufacturer, has warned of potential price surcharges, while Framework has opted to temporarily pause certain U.S. sales altogether.
This ripple effect has also reached Nintendo. Just days ago, pre-orders for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 — initially scheduled to begin on April 9 — were quietly pulled from U.S. websites amid financial uncertainty caused by the tariff announcements. The disruption didn’t stop at American borders, either; Nintendo Canada soon followed suit, announcing delays to pre-orders in Canada as well.
As a result, concerns are growing among fans and analysts alike that Nintendo may be forced to raise the retail price of the Switch 2 and its accompanying software. This comes at a time when the company is already facing criticism over the console's previously announced price point.
