Ubisoft Announces Changes to Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia Franchises
Ubisoft has made several significant announcements impacting its Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia franchises. The early access release for Assassin's Creed Shadows, previously offered with the Collector's Edition, has been canceled. This decision, coupled with a delay to the game's official launch date (February 14, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S), is reportedly due to challenges ensuring historical accuracy and cultural representation, as well as the need for additional polish.

To compensate for the canceled early access, Ubisoft has reduced the price of the Assassin's Creed Shadows Collector's Edition from $280 to $230. The Collector's Edition will still include the artbook, steelbook, figurine, and other previously announced items. Unconfirmed reports suggest Ubisoft Quebec is exploring the addition of a co-op mode featuring both antagonists, Naoe and Yasuke.

Furthermore, Ubisoft has confirmed that there will be no season pass for Assassin's Creed Shadows.
In a separate announcement, Ubisoft revealed the disbandment of the development team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown at Ubisoft Montpellier. Despite positive critical reception, the decision stems from the game failing to meet sales expectations.

While Ubisoft hasn't disclosed specific sales figures, they've acknowledged disappointment with the game's performance. Senior producer Abdelhak Elguess expressed pride in the team's work and confirmed the completion of the post-launch roadmap, including three free content updates and a DLC released in September. The team's members have transitioned to other projects within Ubisoft. Elguess also stated that the company remains committed to the Prince of Persia franchise and plans to deliver future installments. A Mac version of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is anticipated this winter.
