During today's Gamescom Opening Night Live pre-show, the creators of Ghostrunner unveiled their dark new project: Valor Mortis. This single-player first-person soulslike transports players to an alternate-history Eastern Europe amid a fictionalized Napoleon invasion.
A Fallen Soldier's Supernatural Revenge
Players assume the role of William, a deceased French soldier mysteriously resurrected with the ability to manipulate Nephtoglobin - a creeping plague-like corruption that has twisted his former comrades. Armed with this sinister power, William wages war against Napoleon's forces to reclaim his homeland.
The gameplay trailer reveals grotesque body horror transformations as enemies mutate into nightmarish zombie-like creatures under Nephtoglobin's influence. Collecting more of this substance appears to empower William with devastating abilities like pyrokinesis. The visuals showcase visceral melee combat and disturbing environments dripping with gothic atmosphere.
Coming 2026 with Early Playtests
Valor Mortis is slated for 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. The developers will conduct a closed playtest in the coming weeks - interested players can register on the official website.
