Valorant Updates Anti-Cheat After Major Ban Wave

Summary

  • Valorant is cracking down on hackers by implementing ranked rollbacks to reverse progress or rank if a match is affected by cheaters.
  • The new measures are designed to penalize cheaters and promote fair play for all Valorant players.
  • Players on the same team as hackers will keep their rank rating to avoid any unfair losses.

Valorant is taking significant steps to combat the recent surge in hackers by introducing ranked rollbacks. This system aims to undo the progress or rank of players whose matches are compromised by cheating. Valorant's head of anti-cheat, Phillip Koskinas, has publicly addressed the issue, emphasizing Riot Games' determination to tackle cheaters more effectively. He stated that Riot can now "hit so much harder" with these new measures.

Cheating remains a persistent challenge in online gaming, with many titles struggling to maintain fair play. Despite Valorant's robust anti-cheat system, the game has experienced an uptick in hacking incidents, prompting Riot Games to implement stricter penalties. Koskinas took to Twitter to reassure the community that Riot is actively working on solutions. He shared data showing the number of cheaters banned by Valorant's Vanguard system in January, with the peak occurring on January 13.

Riot Games' Future Valorant Bans Will Include Ranked Rollbacks

In response to a player's concern about winning a match with a hacker on their team, Koskinas clarified that players on the same team as a cheater will retain their rank rating, while the opposing team will have their rank restored. Although this approach might lead to some inflation in rankings, Riot believes it's a necessary step forward.

Valorant's Vanguard system, which operates at the kernel level on PCs, has been highly effective in detecting and banning cheaters. Its success has inspired other games, such as Call of Duty, to adopt similar anti-cheat measures. Despite ongoing efforts to eliminate cheaters, they continue to find new ways to infiltrate games.

Valorant has already banned thousands of players, demonstrating Riot Games' commitment to addressing the issue. The introduction of ranked rollbacks is a bold move to curb the latest wave of hackers, though its effectiveness will only be proven over time.
