BioWare brings a mix of exciting and disappointing news for fans of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. On the positive side, players won't have to contend with the often problematic digital rights management (DRM) software, Denuvo. However, PC players will miss out on the opportunity to preload the game.
Veilguard Fans Rejoice Over No DRM Decision
Dragon Age: The Veilguard project director Michael Gamble announced on Twitter (X), "Veilguard will not have Denuvo on PC. We trust you." This decision has been warmly received by the gaming community, as DRM like Denuvo is often criticized for causing performance issues. One fan expressed their support, saying, "I support this. I will buy your game upon launch. Thank you," in response to Gamble's tweet.
Gamble further reassured fans that Veilguard won't require a constant internet connection to play, enhancing the gaming experience. However, this choice to forgo DRM means that PC players won't be able to preload the game. This is a significant downside, especially considering Veilguard's hefty 100GB storage requirement. Console players, on the other hand, can preload the game without issue. Xbox players with early access can start installing now, while PlayStation users with early access will need to wait until October 29.
In addition to the DRM news, BioWare has released the system requirements for Veilguard. They noted, "Players with high-end rigs will be able to take advantage of our suite of Ray Tracing features and uncapped frame rates. For the minimum PC specs, we focused on making the game as accessible to as many people as possible." For consoles (PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X|S), the game will offer fidelity and performance modes, targeting 30 and 60 FPS respectively. To enjoy all Ray Tracing effects on PC, you'll need at least an Intel Core i9 9900K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon 6800XT graphics card.
