The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 premieres May 4, 2025, as exclusively revealed at IGN Fan Fest 2025. IGN showcased an exclusive clip and interviews with Scott Gimple, chief content officer of The Walking Dead universe, Lauren Cohan (Maggie), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan).
Cohan offered insight into Maggie's mental state entering Season 2: "Sadly, not everything is quite as rosy as one would hope," she explained. "My son is a teenager, creating typical family tensions. Add Ginny, a teenage girl in my care, and the usual domestic dynamics are playing out against the backdrop of an apocalyptic world where survival is a daily struggle. That's our starting point before the next big threat emerges."
Morgan discussed Negan's transformation from villain to fan favorite: "Negan is firmly under the thumb of The Dama and The Croat, in unfamiliar territory," he said. "He'll naturally try to regain control, but he's in a tough spot, struggling at the season's start. He's always scheming, but this time he's truly challenged." Morgan also reflected on Lucille, Negan's iconic barbed-wire-wrapped bat: "Lucille...what can I say? I love it! It's the only prop I've ever enjoyed carrying around. It brings back fond memories—though not for Lauren!"
Gimple described the Season 2 conflict: "There's no single big bad. The power dynamics shift constantly. It's less antagonistic and more complex, more political, before becoming physical."
