Unlock the power of your vehicle's diagnostics with Piston, where your car's health is just a tap away on your mobile device. If your Check Engine Light (MIL) is on, let Piston transform your smartphone into an advanced car scanner. Effortlessly read the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) linked to the issue, along with Freeze Frame data, to pinpoint and resolve the problem swiftly.
To get started, you'll need an ELM327 based adapter, available in Bluetooth or WiFi variants, which you'll connect to your vehicle's OBD2 socket. Piston offers a seamless setup guide accessible from the Home page post-installation or anytime through the Settings menu.
With Piston, you can:
- Read and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) as defined by the OBD2 standard
- Explore Freeze Frame data, capturing a snapshot of sensor data at the moment the ECU detected a malfunction
- Monitor real-time data from your vehicle's sensors
- Check the status of Readiness Monitors to ensure your emission control devices are functioning correctly
- Keep a local history of the DTCs you've read
- Log in to save your DTCs in the cloud for easy access anytime, anywhere
- View detailed charts of sensor readouts
- Export real-time sensor data to a file for further analysis
- Verify your car's VIN number
- Delve into ECU details, including the OBD protocol and PIDs number
Please note that some of these features are Premium and require a one-time in-app purchase to unlock all functionalities. No subscriptions needed!
To use Piston as a car scanner, you must have a separate ELM327 based device, either Bluetooth or WiFi. Piston is fully compatible with OBD-II (also known as OBDII or OBD2) and EOBD standards, ensuring wide vehicle support.
All vehicles sold in the USA since 1996 are required to support the OBD2 standard. In the European Union, EOBD became mandatory for petrol vehicles from 2001 and diesel vehicles from 2004. For Australia and New Zealand, OBD2 is mandatory for petrol cars manufactured from 2006 and diesel cars from 2007.
Important: Piston can only access the data your vehicle supports and provides via the OBD2 standard.
