Tarneeb is a card game for two teams, each consisting of two players sitting opposite each other at a table. The game uses a standard 52-card deck, and play proceeds counter-clockwise. Each player attempts to estimate the number of "Allmat" (tricks) their team will win in each round.
The player who wins the bid to declare "Tarneeb" throws a type of paper onto the floor. Other players must then throw the same type of paper. The player who successfully matches the "Tarneeb" paper wins the round. "Tarneeb" papers are more powerful than other papers; however, a stronger "Tarneeb" paper can beat a weaker one. The round ends when all players have played.
Points are tallied at the end of each round. A team only scores points if they meet or exceed their bid for the number of "Allmat" tricks won. If successful, the team adds the number of "Allmat" tricks won to their score. If unsuccessful, the number of "Allmat" tricks won by the opposing team is added to their score, and the bidding team loses points.
If a team bids for and wins 13 tricks without specifically requesting 13, they gain 16 points. If they bid for and win 13 tricks, they receive 26 points. However, if a team bids for 13 tricks and fails to win them, they lose 16 points.
The game concludes when one team reaches a total score of 41 or more points. That team is declared the winner.
