Gotham Knights Might be Heading to Nintendo Switch 2
Based on a Game Developer’s Resume
On January 5, 2025, YouTuber Doctre81 claimed that Gotham Knights could be among the third-party titles slated for the Nintendo Switch 2. This speculation stems from a developer’s resume that listed prior work on Gotham Knights.
The developer worked at QLOC from 2018 to 2023 and their resume highlighted contributions to several games, including Mortal Kombat 11 and Tales of Vesperia. Notably, the resume mentioned Gotham Knights being developed for two unreleased platforms.
One of these platforms might be the original Nintendo Switch, given that Gotham Knights was previously rated by the ESRB for this console. However, due to performance issues on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the feasibility of porting Gotham Knights to the original Switch is uncertain. Yet, the game's listing for another unreleased platform hints at its potential arrival on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.
While there are no official announcements from Warner Bros. Games or Nintendo, the only currently unreleased and highly anticipated platform is the Nintendo Switch 2, lending some credibility to these rumors.
Gotham Knights Rated for Nintendo Switch in 2023
Originally launched in October 2022 for PS5, Windows, and Xbox Series X, Gotham Knights was rumored to be heading to the original Nintendo Switch after receiving an ESRB rating. Some fans speculated it might be featured in an upcoming Nintendo Direct.
However, despite these reports, the game was never officially announced for the original Switch, and its ESRB rating was later removed from the website.
The recent YouTube report, combined with the 2023 ESRB rating, suggests that Gotham Knights might still find its way to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch 2’s Backwards Compatibility and Official Announcement
Shuntaro Furukawa, the current president of Nintendo, announced on Twitter on May 7, 2024, that more information about the Switch's successor would be revealed "within this fiscal year." With Nintendo’s fiscal year ending in March 2025, an official announcement is on the horizon.
In a subsequent tweet, Furukawa confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be backward compatible with the original Switch. This means that "Nintendo Switch software" and "Nintendo Switch Online" will be accessible on the new console. However, it remains unclear whether this compatibility extends to physical cartridges or is limited to digital games.
