DCU head James Gunn has hinted at a major cameo appearance towards the end of Peacemaker Season 2, although he hasn't confirmed if it's a character from the upcoming Superman film or another figure from the broader, revamped DC Universe.
This summer's Superman movie takes place prior to the events of Peacemaker Season 2, which is set to debut on HBO Max (yes, the platform has reverted to its original name) on August 21, 2025. Supergirl premieres on June 26, 2026, while the release date for the Lanterns series remains unannounced. Both Supergirl and Lanterns are set chronologically after Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.
Earlier this month, Max dropped a new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, featuring appearances by Superman-related characters Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner as they evaluate Peacemaker for potential team membership—a process that doesn't go smoothly for him.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn explained that Peacemaker Season 2 is "strongly connected to Superman and serves as a bridge to future storylines," with numerous other narrative ties throughout.
"Fans will remember the Quantum Unfolding Chamber (QUC) from Peacemaker's first season, and that same technology plays a significant role in the Superman film," Gunn elaborated.
"The QUC is central to the plot of Peacemaker Season 2. We'll see several characters from Superman appearing this season—such as Isabela, Nathan, and Sean—alongside appearances later on from other DCU characters. There may even be one particularly noteworthy cameo towards the season's conclusion."
Gunn clarified that Peacemaker Season 2 is set a few years after Season 1, though the exact DCU timeline remains flexible. "Having experienced how challenging it is to perfectly align continuity at Marvel, we've left the exact timeframe intentionally vague—it's an unspecified number of years later," he stated.

Recent developments have made clear that multiple characters will make appearances across Superman, Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl, and Lanterns. With so much overlap, questions naturally arise about whether the DCU will establish a definitive chronological timeline similar to the MCU's Disney+ presentation.
Gunn addressed this very question via social media earlier this month, responding that currently, the DCU timeline simply follows the release order of films and series.
"For now, the viewing order matches the release schedule—though some installments do include flashbacks—starting with Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker, Lanterns, and Supergirl," Gunn clarified.
Disney+ organizes Marvel content chronologically to create a clear canonical timeline. While Gunn's comments suggest HBO Max won't implement a similar feature immediately, as more DCU projects launch, such a tool may become necessary down the line.
Additional DCU projects in development include Clayface, scheduled for September 11, 2026. Meanwhile, the planned film The Authority appears to be facing production challenges. Gunn stated that Waller, the Peacemaker spinoff, "has unfortunately encountered several delays." However, the HBO Max series Booster Gold "is moving forward steadily," and Paradise Lost "remains a priority project with active development," according to Gunn.
Regarding crossover appearances, fans are curious how the Superman film will handle its extensive supporting cast. The most recent trailer featured numerous characters including Mister Terrific and The Engineer, alongside new additions like The Hammer of Boravia and the enigmatic Ultraman.
