NetEase's Marvel Rivals mistakenly bans innocent players. The developer, NetEase, recently issued a widespread ban targeting cheaters in Marvel Rivals, but inadvertently banned numerous legitimate players using compatibility layers on non-Windows systems.
Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck Users Affected
On January 3rd, NetEase acknowledged the error on their Discord server, confirming that players utilizing compatibility software like Proton (on Steam Deck) were wrongly flagged. These bans have since been lifted, and NetEase apologized for the inconvenience. Players experiencing further issues are encouraged to contact support.
The incident highlights the challenges of anti-cheat measures, especially with compatibility layers often triggering false positives.
Calls for Universal Character Bans
Separately, players are requesting the implementation of character bans across all ranks. Currently, this feature is only available in Diamond rank and above. Reddit users express frustration, arguing that lower-ranked players are disadvantaged without the ability to counter overpowered characters. They believe that extending this mechanic to all ranks would improve gameplay balance and provide valuable learning opportunities for newer players. NetEase has yet to respond publicly to this feedback.
