Although Marvel Rivals is a relatively new game, fans are already buzzing with excitement about potential new features. Recent rumors hinted at a possible PvE boss fight, sparking speculation about an upcoming PvE mode. However, NetEase has clarified that no such mode is currently planned... yet.
During the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the opportunity to speak with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the possibility of a PvE mode. Here's what Wu had to say:
"For now, we don't have any kind of PvE plan, but our development team is continuously experimenting with new gameplay modes. So if we find that a new specific game mode is entertaining enough, fun enough, we would of course bring it to our audience."
Following Wu's statement, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo chimed in, asking if I would like to see a PvE mode in Marvel Rivals. Upon confirming my interest, Wu elaborated:
"Yeah, we believe there are some of our audience that would like the PvE mode. But also, you can see that if we come up with a hardcore PvE experience, that will be totally a different distinctive experience from what we have right now. So our development team has been continuously experimenting with different approaches to achieve that goal, maybe a lighter mode, in a lighter sense of that, and to see what would work best for our game."
It appears that while there are no definitive plans for a PvE mode at the moment, Wu suggests that NetEase is exploring ideas for a "lighter" game mode. This could potentially manifest as a one-off event or something similar. For now, NetEase remains tight-lipped about further details.
Marvel Rivals continues to evolve, with new characters like the Human Torch and The Thing set to join the game on February 21. We also discussed with Wu and Koo the prospects of a Nintendo Switch 2 release for Marvel Rivals, which you can learn more about here. Additionally, we addressed the issue of whether NetEase was misleading dataminers with fake hero "leaks" in the game's code.
