Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The publisher cited technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization as the reason for the cancellation.
Delays Leading to Cancellation
The physical release faced multiple delays. Initially slated for March 2023, it was pushed back to December 2023, then to March 2024, and finally to January 2025. These repeated postponements ultimately led to the cancellation. Pre-orders through retailers like Amazon were affected, with customers receiving notifications of the further delays before the ultimate cancellation announcement.
While Meridiem Games offered little further explanation beyond the initial statement regarding localization issues, the repeated delays suggest significant challenges were encountered in adapting the game for multiple European languages.
This news is a significant disappointment for European fans, as it prevents an official physical release in languages such as Spanish. While the game remains available digitally, fans seeking a physical copy must now resort to importing from regions like the US.
Omori, an RPG centered around a young boy named Sunny grappling with trauma, alternates between the real world and his dream world where he becomes Omori. Initially launched on PC in December 2020, the game expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an unrelated issue involving merchandise from the game's developer, OMOCAT.
