We've Reviewed an RTX 5080 Equipped Gaming Laptop
Although we haven't tested Lenovo's latest Legion laptop yet, we have evaluated a gaming laptop featuring the RTX 5080 GPU. The RTX 5080 offers marginally better performance than the RTX 4080 in terms of raw rasterization, but shines significantly brighter when DLSS 4.0 with multi-frame generation is supported. Our review of the Gigabyte Aorus Master laptop, which also has an RTX 5080 with a 150W TGP rating and a 2560x1600 display, suggests that the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i should deliver comparable gaming performance.
Gigabyte Aorus Master 16" RTX 5080 Laptop Review by Chris Coke
"Here's the key point: Nvidia has emphasized the 50-series' AI capabilities over pure native rendering performance. While the RTX 5080's performance is disappointingly close to the RTX 4080, this gap closes when playing games that support multi-frame generation. Though 'fake frames' might be mocked, they can be truly impressive and significantly boost performance. This varies from game to game, depending on how well they manage latency. For instance, Alan Wake 2 can feel laggy at higher multiplier settings, whereas Cyberpunk 2077 does not. With future technologies like neural shaders on the horizon, there's a strong case for investing in these upcoming innovations. However, you're essentially buying into a promise as Nvidia and game developers continue to enhance support in both new and existing titles."
