Marvel Snap's roster of animal companions has been rather sparse—Cosmo, Groose, Zabu, Hit Monkey, and that's pretty much it. But that's changing with the Brave New World season! Falcon's trusty sidekick, Redwing, takes flight and joins the furry (or feathered) fray.
How Redwing Works in Marvel Snap
Redwing is a 3-cost, 4-power card with a unique ability: "The first time this moves, add a card from your hand to its old location."
There are a few key things to keep in mind: Redwing's ability is a one-time use only. Attempts to reactivate it using cards like Symbiote Spider-Man or by returning it to your hand won't work, significantly limiting its strategic options.
Precisely targeting a card with Redwing proves challenging. Move decks often feature low-cost cards (like Iron Fist) you'd rather avoid hitting. Conversely, Scream decks typically manipulate your opponent's cards, not your own.
Despite these limitations, budget-friendly ways to move Redwing exist. Cards like Madame Web or Cloak (easily accessible to lower Collection Level players) offer viable options. The potential payoff is significant—imagine a surprise early Galactus or pulling a game-changing card like The Infinaut.
Best Day One Redwing Decks in Marvel Snap
Ares and Surtur dominated the previous Marvel Snap season, and they're back with a revamped Scream-based build, leveraging cards like Aero and Heimdall to disrupt opponents. Redwing surprisingly fits into this strategy, though you'll almost always prioritize playing Surtur on turn 3. Here's the decklist:
Hydra Bob, Scream, Kraven, Captain America, Redwing, Polaris, Surtur, Ares, Cull Obsidian, Aero, Heimdall, Magneto [Click here to copy this list from Untapped.]
This deck is expensive, featuring several Series 5 cards: Hydra Bob, Scream, Redwing, Surtur, Ares, and Cull Obsidian. Hydra Bob can be substituted with a different 1-cost card (Rocket Raccoon or Iceman are decent alternatives), but the remaining Series 5 cards are essential.
The strategy revolves around playing Surtur on turn 3, followed by high-power cards to boost its power. Scream offers an alternate win condition by stealing power. Polaris, Aero, and Magneto provide "push" capabilities, manipulating card locations. Redwing can be moved into Heimdall, boosting Surtur and drawing a high-power card.
Another potential home for Redwing is a Madame Web deck, though Dagger's nerf has significantly reduced the viability of move-focused decks. Madame Web's ongoing ability complements ongoing-style decks, creating a niche for Redwing:
Ant-Man, Madame Web, Psylocke, Sam Wilson, Captain America, Luke Cage, Captain America, Redwing, Doom 2099, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum [Click here to copy this list from Untapped.]
This deck includes two Series 5 cards: Madame Web and Doom 2099. While Madame Web isn't strictly necessary, removing her necessitates removing Redwing for another Ongoing card (like Mobius M. Mobius).
This is primarily a Doom 2099 Ongoing deck. The goal is to deploy Doom 2099 quickly to spread power across locations. Madame Web helps reposition Doom 2099 bots and manipulate Sam Wilson's shield. Redwing provides another way to utilize Madame Web's move ability.
On turn 6, play Doctor Doom or Spectrum to further spread or spike power for the win.
Is Redwing Worth Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector's Tokens?
Currently, no. Redwing feels underpowered and fits into a currently weak archetype. Save your resources for stronger cards; a significant buff from Second Dinner would be needed to justify investing in Redwing now.
