Santa Monica Studio, the team behind the acclaimed God of War franchise, is reportedly working on a new, unannounced project. This intriguing development comes from a recent LinkedIn update by Glauco Longhi, a key member of the development team.
Glauco Longhi's Hints at a New IP
A Sci-Fi Setting?
Character artist and developer Glauco Longhi, who recently returned to Santa Monica Studio, revealed on his LinkedIn profile that he's overseeing character development for an "unannounced project." His previous work includes contributions to God of War (2018) and a lead role on God of War Ragnarök. His profile states he's "Supervising/Directing Character development on an unannounced project, and also helping the studio to continually push and raise the bar on Character Development for videogames."
This, coupled with Cory Barlog's (director of the 2018 God of War reboot) earlier comments about the studio being "spread out on a lot of different things," and active recruitment for a character artist and tools programmer, strongly suggests a significant new undertaking.
Speculation and Previous Rumors
Rumors point towards a new sci-fi IP, potentially under the direction of Stig Asmussen (God of War 3's creative director). While unconfirmed, Sony's trademark of "Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet" earlier this year further fuels this speculation. Past rumors of a cancelled sci-fi PS4 project from the studio also add to the intrigue. However, no official confirmation has been made by the developers.
