Shift Up, the developer behind the action role-playing game Stellar Blade, has reported a record-breaking financial year in 2024. According to the financial report released by the company, Shift Up achieved a revenue of $151.4 million, marking a significant 30.4% increase from the previous year. A key contributor to this success was Stellar Blade, which generated $43.2 million in royalties.
The momentum for Stellar Blade shows no signs of slowing down. Shift Up is optimistic about the upcoming PC version, expecting it to surpass the sales of the PlayStation 5 original, particularly in the Asian market. Additionally, the company is set to unveil a new game, Project Witches, in the first half of 2025. Although this new project isn't a sequel to Stellar Blade, Shift Up has expressed interest in potentially developing another game within the Stellar Blade franchise.
Stellar Blade, released on the PS5, places players in the shoes of Eve, who fights against mysterious invaders to reclaim Earth. The game combines fast-paced action with RPG elements and quickly sold a million copies. Despite receiving a 7/10 score from IGN, which praised its action gameplay but critiqued its characters, story, and certain RPG mechanics, Stellar Blade has been well-received by the gaming community.
Project Witches was first announced in 2024, shortly after the release of Stellar Blade on PS5, and before any significant demand for a sequel could develop. As Shift Up continues to expand its portfolio, the gaming industry will be watching closely to see how these new projects fare.
