In an insightful interview with Wccftech at Gamescom 2024, the developers of Tides of Annihilation from Eclipse Glow Games delved into the game's unique concept and future plans. Here’s a closer look at what they had to say about their ambitious project, which is set to captivate a Western audience.
Tides of Annihilation Aims For A Western Audience
The Central Concept Of Arthurian Myths And Knights

Eclipse Glow Games, despite being based in China, has tailored Tides of Annihilation to appeal to Western gamers, following the expectations set by their financial backer, Tencent. The producer explained, "This game and Black Myth: Wukong are two projects invested in by Tencent, and there were different expectations set on these two projects. Black Myth: Wukong targeted the Chinese market, but for this project, we targeted a Western audience, so we chose the Arthurian legends." This led to the creation of a central concept revolving around knights, specifically King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
Set in a post-apocalyptic modern-day London, Tides of Annihilation follows the journey of Gwendolyn, seemingly the last human survivor after an Outworld invasion. The game blends an alternate modern setting with rich fantasy elements drawn directly from Arthurian myths, creating a unique and engaging narrative.
Devil May Cry-inspired Combat And Over 30 Bosses

The gameplay of Tides of Annihilation mirrors the dynamic combat style of the classic Devil May Cry series. The developers confirmed, "It's definitely more like Devil May Cry," but with an added feature of difficulty selection to cater to a broader audience. This approach makes the game more accessible, with simple controls for less hardcore players.
Players can customize their combat style with four weapons and over ten different Knights to choose from as sidekicks. Gwendolyn discovers her ability to command the Knights of the Round Table, who assist her in navigating the ruins of London and uncovering the truth behind the invasion. With over 30 unique bosses to battle, the game promises challenging and engaging gameplay.
Plans Of Creating An Anthology

Looking to the future, Eclipse Glow Games expressed interest in expanding the Tides of Annihilation franchise into an anthology. They plan to explore different settings and mythologies, each with a new protagonist, while maintaining the core concept of an Outworld invasion. The team hopes that the success of the first title will pave the way for more exciting entries in the series.
Currently in its beta phase, Tides of Annihilation is slated for a tentative release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will join Gwendolyn in her fight against fate, not only to save London but also to protect the intertwined fantasy realm of Avalon.
