Warner Bros. Games is refocusing its interactive entertainment strategy around four major franchises: Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, DC, and Game of Thrones.
According to a report by Variety, the company is undergoing an internal restructuring that includes leadership changes but no executive departures or layoffs. As part of this shift, three prominent figures within Warner Bros. Games have been elevated to key senior roles, each overseeing different segments of the company's gaming initiatives.
Yves Lachance, previously head of Warner Bros. Games Montreal, has been named Senior Vice President, Development, with oversight of games based on the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones universes. Shaun Himmerick from NetherRealm Studios steps into the role of Senior Vice President, Development for the Mortal Kombat and DC Universe portfolios. Meanwhile, Steven Flenory, formerly of Warner Bros. Games New York, has taken on the position of Senior Vice President, Central Tech & Services, where he will oversee game and publishing technology infrastructure, customer support, QA, and user research.
“We are home to some of the most iconic franchises in entertainment, and we’re refining our organizational structure to build long-term, fan-first roadmaps across Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC,” said J.B. Perrette, CEO of Global Streaming & Games. “We’re fortunate to have such strong development and technical talent within our studios. Yves, Shaun, and Steven are proven leaders who bring deep expertise and a track record of success. I’m excited to work closely with them as we strive to deliver the best possible games for these powerful brands.”
This realignment comes after a challenging start to 2025 for Warner Bros. Games. On January 23, it was announced that David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Games, would be stepping down following a string of setbacks—including the underwhelming launches of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and MultiVersus. Plans to shut down the latter were revealed just days later, followed by more dramatic news in February when the studio confirmed the closure of Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. San Diego, along with the cancellation of its Wonder Woman title.
The current restructuring aligns with a strategic plan outlined by Warner Bros. late last year, which acknowledged that its games division "is substantially underperforming its potential right now." The revised direction focuses on core titles like Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC—with special emphasis on Batman, as noted by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.
These shifts at Warner Bros. Games also reflect broader corporate reorganizations happening across Warner Bros. Discovery. Recently, the company announced plans to split into two distinct entities: Global Networks and Streaming & Studios. On the streaming side, audiences can expect the return of the HBO Max brand, as Max is set to revert back to its original name in the near future.
