The DOOM franchise's adaptability continues to amaze, with recent experiments showcasing its ability to run on unconventional hardware. A tech enthusiast, NyanSatan, successfully launched the classic DOOM on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter.
This adapter, as NyanSatan explains, utilizes iOS-based firmware and a processor clocked at up to 168 MHz. The process involved accessing the adapter's firmware and then executing the game, leveraging a MacBook for firmware transfer due to the adapter's lack of internal memory.
Meanwhile, news about an upcoming iteration reveals increased accessibility features. DOOM: The Dark Ages will allow players to adjust demon aggression within the game's settings. This focus on accessibility is a core tenet of its development, promising significantly more customization options than previous id Software titles.
Executive producer Marty Stratton highlights the studio's commitment to accessibility. Players will be able to fine-tune enemy damage and overall difficulty, along with projectile speed, damage received, and other parameters such as game pace, aggression levels, and parry timing.
Stratton further clarifies that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't necessary to understand the narratives in both DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal.
