PlayStation 5 finally has its answer to Forza Horizon 5 - because now it literally has Forza Horizon 5. No other racing game offers quite the same experience.
The Crew Motorfest? Getting closer. By adopting a full festival approach, it's the most Horizon-like entry in Ubisoft's series yet. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown? Not quite. While Horizon owes much to the original TDU, Solar Crown's always-online requirement misses the mark. Need for Speed Unbound? While its customization surpasses Horizon, its arcade police chases create a different experience.
Forza Horizon 5 stands unchallenged as the pinnacle of modern open-world racing - now available on PS5 for the first time. Players are discovering everything that makes it special: the stunning Mexican landscape, perfectly tuned drifting mechanics, and an unrivaled car collection featuring rare models you won't find elsewhere.
The development team at Playground Games is particularly excited about welcoming PlayStation players to their world. "This will be many players' first Horizon experience," says art director Don Arceta. "It reminds me of our own first time discovering the series."
Arceta can't wait to see what PS5 players create with the game's Event Lab tools: "With over 800 props available, the creativity we've seen has been incredible. The PlayStation community will bring fresh ideas - we might even see some interesting Halo-inspired content!"
The PS5 port maintains the same technical excellence as its Xbox and PC counterparts - no small feat given the game's scale and first-time PlayStation implementation. "Panic Button did amazing work adapting our engine," Arceta explains about the porting process.
Lead game designer David Orton highlights Horizon's wide appeal: "Whether you love competitive racing, photography, or creating custom events, there's something for everyone. The freedom to play your way is what makes Horizon special."
Both developers share the same hope: "We want new players to experience that moment of shocked delight - 'Why haven't I played this before?'" says Arceta. Orton adds: "Seeing players discover Horizon's welcoming world would be our greatest win."
This launch breaks down platform barriers in the racing genre. Here's hoping it's just the beginning.
