Heroes of the Storm Revives Brawl Mode: A Celebration of Classic Maps and Challenges
Heroes of the Storm is bringing back a fan-favorite game mode: Brawl Mode, the successor to the beloved Heroes Brawl. This revival unlocks dozens of previously unavailable maps, offering unique challenges and gameplay experiences not seen in nearly five years. Currently available on the Public Test Realm (PTR), Brawl Mode is set for official release within the next month.
The original Heroes Brawl, initially launched as Arena Mode in 2016, featured weekly rotating gameplay variations. Inspired by Hearthstone's Tavern Brawls, it introduced innovative map layouts, alternative objectives, and unusual rulesets. Examples included all-Nova sniper duels, Arena-style battlefields, and the PvE mission, Escape from Braxis. However, due to the rising popularity of single-lane maps and maintenance complexities, it was discontinued in 2020, replaced by ARAM.
Now, Brawl Mode makes a triumphant return. The PTR update includes the first iteration, Snow Brawl, a holiday-themed experience. This bi-weekly rotating mode (updates on the 1st and 15th of each month) rewards players with a special chest after completing three matches. The number of rewards per Brawl or per week is yet to be confirmed. With over two dozen past Heroes Brawls, players can anticipate a diverse range of returning favorites and potentially new Brawls in the future.
The PTR version of Snow Brawl is slated to run for three weeks, suggesting a February launch for Brawl Mode. This resurgence is particularly significant, coinciding with Heroes of the Storm's 10th anniversary on June 2nd, 2025. Many players see this as a positive sign, potentially hinting at a broader revival of the game itself.
