Splitgate 2 Confirmed for 2025 Release
Evolving the Formula
On July 18th, 1047 Games unveiled a cinematic trailer for Splitgate 2, the follow-up to their breakout 2019 free-to-play shooter.
CEO Ian Proulx explained their vision to "create a game with lasting power." While the original drew from classic arena shooters, the team recognized that "building a modern title with longevity required developing deeper gameplay systems."
Hilary Goldstein, Head of Marketing, noted "we redesigned the portal mechanics to allow elite players to shine while keeping the game accessible."

While gameplay details remain scarce, developers confirmed the game uses Unreal Engine 5, maintains free-to-play access, and introduces a faction system. They promise "both familiar elements and a completely fresh experience."
Splitgate 2 launches in 2025 for PC, PS5|PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

Dubbed "Halo with Portals," Splitgate revolutionized arena shooters with its portal-based movement system. The 2019 demo went viral, reaching 600,000 downloads in its first month - overwhelming servers and requiring upgrades.
Following years of early access, the developers announced in 2022 they would shift focus from updates to create "a revolutionary new game in the Splitgate universe."
New Factions and Gameplay Features

The trailer introduces the Sol Splitgate League's three distinct factions, each offering unique combat styles. According to Steam:
- Aeros faction emphasizes mobility and aerial combat
- Meridian specializes in tactical time manipulation
- Sabrask delivers brute-force firepower
While incorporating faction-based elements, developers confirmed "Splitgate 2 remains a traditional shooter, not a hero-based game."

Gamescom 2024 (August 21-25) will reveal gameplay footage, but the trailer already teased key features:
- Enhanced portal mechanics with visual trails
- New weapons and dual-wielding options
- Revamped map designs
Compelling Lore Through Comics

While skipping a single-player campaign, Splitgate 2 expands its universe through:
- A mobile companion app featuring lore comics
- Collectible character cards
- Faction compatibility quizzes
