This guide explores the Paralysis condition in Pokémon TCG Pocket, detailing its effects, cures, and strategic applications.
What is Paralysis in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

Paralysis is a Special Condition that immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for a single turn, preventing attacks and retreats. It automatically resolves at the start of the opponent's next turn (after their Checkup phase).
Paralysis vs. Sleep
Both Paralysis and Sleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Sleep requires a coin flip to cure, while Paralysis automatically resolves. Strategies like evolving or retreating the Active Pokémon can also cure Sleep.
Paralysis in Pokémon Pocket vs. Physical TCG
Unlike the physical TCG, where cards like Full Heal remove Paralysis, Pokémon Pocket currently lacks direct counters. The core mechanic—inability to attack or retreat for one turn—remains consistent.
Pokémon with Paralysis Abilities

Currently, only three Genetic Apex cards inflict Paralysis: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. Each uses a coin flip, making it a chance-based effect rather than a reliable deck-building strategy.
Curing Paralysis

Four methods exist to cure Paralysis:
- Time: The condition automatically ends at the start of your next turn.
- Evolution: Evolving the Paralyzed Pokémon immediately removes the condition.
- Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon to the Bench removes the condition (as Bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions). Cards like Koga can facilitate this.
- Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers direct counterplay, but only under specific circumstances (Weezing or Muk).
Best Paralysis Deck

Paralysis alone isn't a strong deck archetype. Combining it with Sleep, however, offers synergy. An Articuno & Frosmoth deck, leveraging Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex attacks, provides a viable strategy.
Sample Paralyze/Sleep Deck
| Card | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Wigglypuff ex | 2 |
| Jigglypuff | 2 |
| Snom | 2 |
| Frosmoth | 2 |
| Articuno | 2 |
| Misty | 2 |
| Sabrina | 2 |
| X Speed | 2 |
| Professor's Research | 2 |
| Poke Ball | 2 |
This deck utilizes the combined effects of Paralysis and Sleep for a more effective strategy. Remember that the success of this deck relies on the chance-based nature of the Paralysis effect.
