Sony has recently unveiled a new PlayStation studio, teamLFG, which originated from Bungie, the creators of Destiny and Marathon. In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment's Studio Business Group, expressed his excitement about teamLFG's ambitious incubation project.
The name teamLFG, derived from 'Looking For Group,' hints at a strong focus on social gaming. Their debut game is described as a team-based action game, drawing inspiration from a diverse range of genres including fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." This game will be set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new mythic, science-fantasy universe.
teamLFG's mission is to create games that foster friendship, community, and a sense of belonging. They aim to provide an environment where players can enjoy the excitement of logging in to find teammates already online, recognize familiar names, and create memorable moments that become part of their gaming lore. As they put it, "dat's da good stuff."
The studio is committed to developing immersive multiplayer worlds that players can engage with and master over countless hours. They plan to involve their community in the development process through early access playtests, staying responsive to player feedback not only before launch but throughout the game's live service to ensure continuous growth and improvement.

teamLFG's game project was spun out of Bungie during significant layoffs last year. Following Sony's acquisition, Bungie struggled to meet financial targets, particularly with Destiny 2, leading to layoffs affecting approximately 100 employees in November 2023, and another 220 in 2024, which was 17% of the studio's workforce. The remaining 155 employees were integrated elsewhere within Sony Interactive Entertainment.
In the midst of these changes, a former Bungie lawyer praised Sony's role in pushing for improvements to Destiny 2. Recently, Bungie fully revealed the extraction shooter Marathon and outlined the future roadmap for Destiny 2, while confirming no plans for Destiny 3 and canceling a Destiny spinoff project called Payback.
