Atelier Resleriana's Console Spinoff: A Gacha-Free Experience
No More Gacha!
Koei Tecmo Europe announced on November 26, 2024 (via Twitter/X) that Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & The White Guardian will break away from the gacha mechanics of its mobile counterpart, Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator. This means players won't be forced into pay-to-win scenarios to unlock characters or items. The game will offer a more traditional progression experience.
Beyond the absence of gacha, the announcement highlights offline playability, eliminating the need to interact with the mobile version. The official website promises "New protagonists and an original story await in Lantarna," suggesting a shared world but independent narrative and characters.
Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian is slated for release on PS5, PS4, Switch, and Steam in 2025. Pricing and a precise release date remain unannounced.
Atelier Resleriana (Mobile): A Look at the Gacha System
Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator, the foundation for the upcoming title, incorporates a gacha system into its core Atelier gameplay loop. While retaining the series' signature synthesis and turn-based combat, it introduces a monetized element for character acquisition and strengthening.
The gacha utilizes a "spark" system, awarding medals with each pull to unlock characters or Memoria (illustration cards). Unlike a pity system, there's no guaranteed drop after a specific number of pulls. This mechanic, along with the cost of pulls, has drawn criticism from some Steam players, despite generally positive mobile reviews (4.2/5 on Google Play, 4.6 on the App Store). The game launched on Steam, Android, and iOS in January 2024, receiving a "Mixed" rating on Steam.
The shift away from gacha in the upcoming console/PC release signifies a significant change, likely aiming to address player concerns about monetization while retaining the core Atelier experience.
