⚫︎ DOOM: The Dark Ages is set to launch on May 15, promising a medieval-inspired prequel that builds upon the acclaimed Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. ⚫︎ In an interview featured in PC Gamer's upcoming issue 408 (396 in the U.S.), DOOM: The Dark Ages director Hugo Martin and producer Marty Stratton discussed the game's expanded melee and parry mechanics. Martin hinted at the possibility of a melee-only playthrough, describing it as "slightly out of bounds" but achievable for dedicated players. Stratton added that such a challenge would likely be janky and less enjoyable, drawing comparisons to the notorious pistol-only Ultra Nightmare challenge in Doom 2016.

⚫︎ Also in the same issue of PC Gamer, Hugo Martin and Marty Stratton shed light on the conclusion of DOOM: The Dark Ages. Contrary to what some might expect, the story won't end with the Slayer being locked in a coffin as seen at the start of Doom 2016. Martin explained that such an ending would close off future medieval-era narratives, as The Dark Ages is meant to be part of a larger "Chronicles of the Slayer" saga. The game's ending will instead leave room for potential prequels.

⚫︎ During another interview for PC Gamer's upcoming issue, Hugo Martin and Marty Stratton discussed DOOM: The Dark Ages' weapon lineup. Martin revealed that, apart from the shotguns, the game's arsenal is entirely new or significantly transformed, including a redesigned plasma weapon. This deliberate choice aims to offer players fresh tools to master and enhance their gameplay experience.
