FF7 Rebirth Director Shares Inside Look at the Game
Developers Chose Not to Add New Content for the PC Version

In a December 13 interview on the Epic Games blog, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi explained that although the development team considered creating new DLC for the PC version, they ultimately held back to focus on completing the trilogy's final game.
The PC edition of FF7 Rebirth might have included extra content if the developers had followed their initial wishes. Hamaguchi admitted, "We did want to include a new episodic DLC for the PC release." However, the team's limited resources meant that finishing the last part of the trilogy is their "top priority" at the moment.
While no new content is currently planned, Hamaguchi remains open to community feedback. He noted, "If we get enough requests from players after launch on particular topics, we’ll definitely take them into account." This means that popular demand could still bring additional content to the PC version down the line.
A Word to the Modding Community

During the same interview, Hamaguchi also addressed the modding community. While the PC version won't have official mod support, he acknowledged that players will likely create mods to enhance or alter the game in various ways.
Asked whether the PC release would be as accessible to modders as the 2012 remaster, Hamaguchi responded, "We value the creativity of modders and we welcome their contributions, but we kindly ask them to avoid producing or using anything offensive or inappropriate."

Mods can bring new life to games by introducing fresh features, higher-quality textures, and unique content. Some mods have even evolved into full standalone titles—Counter-Strike, for example, originated as a Half-Life mod.
Still, with the freedom of online creation, some mods can cross the line into vulgar or provocative territory, making Hamaguchi’s request both sensible and necessary.
Enhancements and Changes in the PC Version of FF7

The PC version of FF7 Rebirth includes updated graphics and new features designed to improve the player experience. These enhancements cover lighting and texture resolutions, and the game is set to launch on Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025.
One key improvement is the updated lighting system, which addresses a common criticism from the original release regarding how it occasionally made character faces appear unnatural. Players with high-end PCs will also benefit from superior 3D models and texture resolutions beyond what the PS5 can deliver.

Hamaguchi also highlighted the complexity of adapting the game's mini-games for PC. "It was tough dealing with all the technical tasks, such as enabling unique key configurations for certain mini-games," he explained.
FF7 Rebirth is the second chapter in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. It originally launched for the PS5 on February 9, 2024, and was met with widespread praise from critics and fans.
