The Growing Use of AI in Game Development
Market research firm CIST's survey reveals that a significant portion (62%) of game development studios already utilize AI to streamline workflows, primarily for prototyping, concept creation, asset generation, and world-building. This highlights the practical applications of AI while underscoring the need to balance technological advancement with the preservation of human roles.
PlayStation's Approach to AI and Future Plans
Hulst confirms that PlayStation is actively involved in AI research and development, having established a dedicated Sony AI department in 2022. Beyond gaming, PlayStation is exploring multimedia expansion, adapting its game IPs into film and television. The upcoming Amazon Prime series based on 2018's God of War serves as an example of this strategy. Hulst aims to elevate PlayStation IPs beyond gaming, integrating them into the broader entertainment landscape.
