Deadlock, the innovative third-person MOBA from Valve, has just announced a groundbreaking update that promises to reshape its gameplay dynamics. This major update, detailed in a Steam post on February 26, 2025, involves a significant transformation of the game's map from a four-lane structure to a more traditional three-lane setup. This change aims to simplify the map's layout and enhance the overall gaming experience.
Deadlock Announced Major Update In Months
Four-lane Map Becomes Three Lanes
The transition from four lanes to three in Deadlock is accompanied by a host of other changes, including updates to visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, and the mid boss. This comprehensive map rework is designed to streamline gameplay while preserving the unique third-person perspective that sets Deadlock apart in the MOBA genre. The shift to a three-lane format is intended to address the complexities introduced by the fourth lane, making the game more accessible to new and returning players alike.
Furthermore, Deadlock's latest patch introduces changes to the farming mechanics. Players will no longer need to last-hit enemy troopers to summon Soul Orbs, which should make early laning phases more approachable. The update also promises improvements to the game's netcode and client performance, ensuring a smoother and more responsive experience for all players.
Vital Update for Deadlock
This update could be the catalyst Deadlock needs to revitalize its player base. In September 2024, the game reached an all-time peak of 171,490 active players, but recent months have seen a 90% drop to around 17,000 players. Valve Developer Yoshi announced in January 2025 on the game's Discord server that the development team would shift from a two-week update cycle to more substantial, albeit less frequent, major patches. Yoshi stated, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."
Currently, Deadlock is in active development and playtesting, accessible only through friend invites. While there's no official release date yet, the game continues to evolve with each update. For more details on Deadlock and its latest developments, visit our dedicated Deadlock page.
