Sony's highly anticipated Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has officially landed on PC today, January 30. The game's port, which has been meticulously crafted for PC, promises to offer a seamless experience across various hardware setups. Developer Nixxes Software detailed the extensive PC features on the PlayStation Blog, highlighting their efforts to optimize both performance and visual fidelity.
Alongside a captivating new trailer, Nixxes confirmed that the PC version of Spider-Man 2 eliminates the need for a PSN account, a significant change from its console counterpart. Additionally, the port introduces advanced raytracing capabilities, including DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction, enhancing the visual experience significantly.
"In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC with ray reconstruction enabled, we see more detailed ray-traced reflections and better-defined ray-traced shadows, especially when viewing raytracing effects at steep angles," stated Menno Bil, a graphics programmer at Nixxes. "We also see improvements in the ray-traced interiors and less ghosting and noise in the ray-traced ambient occlusion."
The game supports a range of upscaling and frame generation technologies such as DLSS 3, FSR 3.1, and Intel's XeSS. Although DLSS 4’s Multi Frame Generation isn't included by default, players can potentially enhance DLSS 3's Frame Generation image quality using the Nvidia app.
For those with wider monitors, Spider-Man 2 offers ultrawide support up to 48:9 aspect ratios, with cinematics optimized for viewing up to 32:9.
The system requirements are thoughtfully divided into ray-traced and non-ray-traced setups. For players not prioritizing ray-tracing, the game can run at 720p and 30 FPS on older systems with components like an Nvidia GTX 1650, an Intel Core i3 8100, and 16 GB of RAM. On the other end of the spectrum, for those with high-end hardware, the "Ray Tracing Ultimate" setting at 4K 60 FPS demands an RTX 4090, an AMD Ryzen 7800X3D, and 32 GB of RAM.
As for playing Spider-Man 2 on the Steam Deck, the high RAM and modern graphics card requirements suggest it might be feasible, but don't expect official Steam Deck verification soon. Previous titles like Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales were based on PS4 ports, making them more adaptable to lower-end hardware, whereas Spider-Man 2 was initially exclusive to the PS5 and may require more robust hardware.
The community has lauded the detailed system requirements. A user commented on Reddit, "This must be the best hardware requirements sheet I’ve seen so far." Another user, ItsMeIcebear4, added, "Honestly, great job. If performance lives up to this, it'll be very well received."
